Also, the wealth of anecdotal pregnant teens I’m sure that person TOTALLY talked to…

…they “felt the baby running away” during the procedure?

So this was some kind of non-anesthetized abortion procedure, was it? Fascinating.

Women stick their necks out to say that something is fucked-up, hurtful, oppressive, scary: Misogynist. They do this knowing full well that there will be social consequences. Remarkably, we’re all familiar with the idea that the women who do this are bitches/ugly/humorless/scolds/delusional (“you see sexism everywhere”)/hysterical/oversensitive/insensitive/etc. We know that we take on most of the risk, in this conversation. We know that we have to be very careful in terms of what we say, and to whom; that we will be expected to choose our targets and our words very carefully, seem “understanding,” seem “empathetic,” make all the right allowances, be oh so very polite. We labor over our words, swallow our anger, push through our fear (and most women who bring themselves to make these kinds of statements are very afraid of reprisal; we know it happens, in overt and subtle ways, pretty much every time), construct these carefully tortured and worked-out sentences; we work at this shit.

And then, after all that work, some dude makes a joke about how we need some dick — not even a joke he’s had to work on, really; that line’s been around forever — and everybody laughs, and it’s over. We get no apology. We get no consideration. We get no hearing. We get nothing. What this exchange ultimately proves to women, every time it’s played out, is that no matter how hard we work, we will never matter. We will never be heard. It’s just the same fucking thing, every day, like a punch to the gut: You think you can change shit? You think I care how you feel? You think I care what you think? No. Never. You think it fucking matters that you don’t like what I do to you? It doesn’t. I’m gonna fucking do what I want to you. Sit the fuck down, shut the fuck up, and take it. Or else I’m gonna tell everyone what a bitch you are, that you won’t play my game. My very special game, that I designed. And here are the rules for the game: You Lose.

'Miracle babies' pastor to be extradited to Kenya

christiantheatheist:

An evangelist who claimed to have created miraculous pregnancies through prayer is to be sent back to Kenya to face child abduction charges.

Gilbert Deya, who has held services in Peckham, south London, has fought a legal battle to stay in the UK since 2007, arguing anything else would breach his human rights.

Now the home secretary Theresa May has decided extradition should go ahead.

The Kenyan government alleges he stole five children between 1999 and 2004.

Concerns were first aired about Mr Deya’s conduct on the BBC Radio 4 investigative programme, Face the Facts in 2004.

Infertile or post-menopausal women who attended his church in Peckham, South London were told they would be having “miracle” babies.

But the babies were always “delivered” in backstreet clinics in Nairobi.

The Tottenham MP, David Lammy, had a husband and wife turn up at his constituency surgery who had been through it.

“The couple went to Africa, came back into the country with a child that the authorities found out was not theirs through a DNA test.

“What unravelled was clearly a child trafficking situation, that didn’t just involve my constituents, but involved a number of women making their way to Kenya and then arriving back into our country apparently thinking these children were theirs but they clearly were not,” he said.

Gilbert Deya was interviewed on Face the Facts in 2004.

When asked how he explained the births of children with DNA different to that of their alleged parents, he said: “The miracle babies which are happening in our ministry are beyond human imagination.

“It is not something I can say I can explain because they are of God and things of God cannot be explained by a human being.”

In 2007, the then home secretary, Jacqui Smith decided Mr Deya should be extradited to Kenya.

His appeal against that decision at the High Court failed and he was refused permission to take his case to the House of Lords.

And while the legal wranglings have continued Gilbert Deya has remained in the UK running what appears to be a successful charity, and broadcasting to Africa and Europe on his satellite TV channel, Deya Broadcasting Network.

The latest available accounts for his charity, Gilbert Deya Ministries, date back to 2009 and show an income from voluntary donations of more than £1.2m.

The charity’s stated purpose is to “advance the Christian religion”. On its website it claims to have 34,000 followers with churches in Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leicester and London.

Mr Deya’s wife, Mary, has already been jailed in Kenya for child abduction.

In a statement the Home Office said: “He has exhausted all avenues of appeal against extradition under the Extradition Act.”

This is a horrific story.

“words words words” (cartoon by nakedpastor)

I was surprised at myself while I was drawing this cartoon. I got rather emotional. Why? Because I didn’t make this up! All these words have been spoken to me. And when I thought about it, I could count on one hand the people who were actually interested in my intellectual and theological journey that got me to where I am. Most, however, see such a journey not as a progression but as a recession or a digression. Backsliding! And they’re not interested in these stories.

I’ve survived the gauntlet of negative words, some of which carry the power of actual cursing. And such words continue to fly daily in my direction.

However, one eventually learns how to handle them.

Own the original drawing! Or buy a print of this cartoon.

It certainly wasn’t much of a sacrifice.

I always wondered why, when Jesus say “Surely I come quickly”, why his Resurrection after death did not count as his “second coming”.  He already freakin’ came back!  Of course, he really didn’t do anything useful, but as Revelation hadn’t been written yet, maybe that’s all he was talking about.

Valid questions. Also, why was he God’s only begotten son (john 3:16)? Couldn’t God have more kids? Arent we all God’s children? Aren’t God and Jesus one and the same?

Nothing fails like prayer

Prayer is, at best, a placebo effect.  At worst, it keeps you from pursuing avenues which may really have an effect.

Perhaps they wouldn’t have made a mistake like this if they had asked an expert, like any student getting a C or better in a high-school science class.

…I swear to gods this is from the exact textbook I had in fourth grade.

And I am here to tell you this is not the worst of it.
